Material Handling Equipment Product Spotlight: The Modula Cube

Posted in Modula | Written by: Matt McDaniel

Modula-VLMIf you read this blog with any regularity, you know that we consistently tout the benefits of vertical storage. But what if you don’t have the vertical clearance in your warehouse, distribution center or factory? What type of automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) will work in your facility?

All is not lost. The Modula Cube is an automated horizontal lift storage system – and it’s just right for storing high-value items (pharmaceuticals, jewelry, electronics and the like) in low ceiling environments. Like the other Modula systems, the Modula Cube has an intuitive color touchscreen console and interface, providing efficient and easy-to-use picking for users, as well as increased inventory control.

How It Works

The Modula Cube has multiple modules to build its overall length. Trays are stored in two columns within each module, one at the front and the other at the rear. The trays are transported between modules to operators at the access opening area via a shuttle, which travels both vertically and horizontally within the Modula Cube.

So, imagine a vertical storage system that worked perfectly on its side. The Modula Cube has the added ability to horizontally transfer trays between modules for a longer machine instead of only storing items vertically.

Safety Systems

Of course, since it’s a Modula system, it has some great features and benefits:

Personal protection safety light curtains at the access opening area to prevent injury when trays are being delivered or returned.

  • Automatic doors or the access opening area.
  • The picking bay area features lighting to allow for easy viewing of items.
