Material Handling Equipments complete production system
Material Handling Equipments are all the equipments that are required for the movement, storage, control and protection of materials, goods and products throughout the process of manufacturing, distribution, consumption and disposal. It is divide into four segments: storage and handling equipment, engineered systems, industrial trucks and bulk material handling.
The storage and handling equipment includes non-automated storage equipment like; Pallet rack, shelving, carts, etc. Engineered systems are custom engineered material handling systems like; Handling Robots, Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS), carousels, conveyor systems, AGV, etc. Industrial trucks are used to refer to operator driven motorized warehouse vehicles that includes; Forklift trucks. Bulk material handling equipment is required to move and store bulk materials like; ore, liquids and cereals. ASRS includes vertical carousels, Vertical Lift Modules (VLM) , horizontal carousels, etc.
A VLM are designed for saving space and use vertical space for stacking load in the warehouse, which can save up to 80% of space. They are different from vertical carousels in that they do not have a continuously rotating series of trays. Pick-to-Light systems are useful in places where work with high picking speed and low error rate is required. Put-to-Light systems or Put-by-Light systems tell the instructor where and how to allocate stock to orders, leading to efficient picking from bulk stock.
Conveyor system is used to move a wide variety of materials from one location to another and is mainly used in the material handling and packaging industries. The Carton and Tote Conveyor System consists of a modular system that can be combined to suit customer requirements. A warehouse control system (WCS) is a software application which controls the real-time activities within warehouses and distribution centers.
